Google search volume reveals trends for slashdot

The picture pretty much tells the whole story ( No offense Edward Tufte ). No kittehs were hurt to create this information, Wow, Google says that /. dies in 2011. Perhaps it is time for some new ideas CmdrTaco.

LOLcats may have jumped the shark too.

This is a neat Google tool. I think this is why Microsoft is so worried. If trends continue, Microsoft will drop off the map completely about 2014. The interesting thing that I see in the relationship of Microsoft and Apple is the graph of a duopoly relationship. Ubuntu is the outside player. It seems that Ubuntu takes from Microsoft and adds to Apple in some strange way. There is a synergy somewhere and that must be X apps. I suppose that this is why Ms is pretending to support open source to ultimately confuse consumers.

Coke versus Pepsi is a classic duopoly and they must advertise to maintain the stalemate. That is a classic equilibrium. It seems that Ms and Ap are doing this.

As you can see, ants cause hurricanes which cause Hitler.

Label clouds logic

I was looking for a way to do some more with labels and I like the way I can find something with the cloud and perhaps it helps a visitor to know that most of what I post is simply about programming in one form or another. I pasted this in the URL of my Firefox browser and it worked to find that label.

http://infinitefuture.blogspot.com/search/label/programming?max-results=1 or http://infinitefuture.blogspot.com/search/label/AI?max-results=10

Now I need a way to search several as logical sets and I don't think I can unless I use google direct or with an interface so I will analyze that . Strange that I can just paste that as a url and get a set limit of posts. I am sure the API will let me find what I want. I will post the results when I solve the process.

When I have my own server running I will fix all this and use a server side script to make an N-dimensional relationship of the data. Yes, trees, matrix, hash and linked lists. I found a way to do the logic myself when I type, but that is too time intensive, I need a program to do the work for me and I don't have the patience to do it by hand through Google, so I will start fresh with my own domain.

I see that every post I ever made on any blog, XKCD , PodBlack, or Slashdot is indexed on the web. Well my silliness will live on as long as they backup the Internet. I think I will download the Internet and save it on my USB drive, just in case. It is bizarre when they start indexing the list of indexes. It seems that somebody should be careful about recursing the Internet, it could happen and then everybody would say, "Hey I was using that!" That isn't a joke. I understand the process and it is possible to find oneself in a big pickle fairly easy by just typing the wrong reference into some code. I don't want to think about it, it is too complex and it will give me a headache if I try to solve whether it is possible to make a piece of code that causes all the nets to recurse. I will not think about it. End of topic, no more analysis of multiple [or-and] search in search. "Please don't forsake me oh my darling", "High Noon", "Please don't recurse me oh my Internet", from "The Internet".

Now that I started thinking about it I can't stop, because it seems that I remember somebody who looked at email and said, "Hey this will send one email and then that will send 2 or maybe 7" and it was the first "worm". It is a thing that never existed before, 'The Intertubes' and there is no basis to define how it will act under an intentional mis-direction. I won't be as silly as the person who did that. I would never try such a thing. Looking at the "Morris Worm" partial quote from Wikipedia at the link.

The U.S. GAO put the cost of the damage at $10M–100M. The Morris worm prompted DARPA to fund the establishment of the CERT Robert Morris was tried and convicted.

It is giving me a headache already as it branches to infinity so quickly. ((109)!) * (3*108 meters per second) , ten to the ninth factorial times the speed of light, definitely a spooky number! Let's hope it doesn't follow Murphy's law.

ADDED: So I thought, "How does this work?" I can guess that if you want to show something the default is 'index.html' and I figured it couldn't be that easy. If it were that easy, I could use some command to get it and then get another one and make a two dictionaries in python ( post titles), check where list A intersected with list B [ I posted code for this in Python as factorial search of combined letters in words for scrabble in a dictionary ].

wget http://infinitefuture.blogspot.com/search/label/C/index.html

So I tried it. And to my surprise it gave me all the items in that category as "index.html". Thus the factorial recombination and analysis to allow me to and-or group and define a complex search space is simple from there. Now where does this apply also? I remember a talk on "Data Typing" or some such thing at Google Talks and this is what they mean, a general algorithm that is applicable to many data sets. Data mining. I see many things when I encounter something and it is a storm and there in the distant clouds of complexity is the corner case of darkness. The swan appears quite dark from here.

I have done this several times as I wished to automate the process of data analysis for several purposes including the care and feeding of my hungry young AIs. [class='timestamp-link' href=] is the key and after that is the data, it is as simple as FILE file;file=fopen("index.html","rb");, and scan to the key and then take to the end, which is then stripped like a method similar to `basename` in shell. Simple stuff actually.

It is too simple, actually. The convenience has made everything a limited guessable set. It is so predictable, I can almost hear the electrons sloshing around in the intertubes. It is the heavy electrons that make the most noise. And at least technically that is true. m0@0v  not =  m@v etc.

The oddest thing I saw was that Googly the server-cat was doubling up stuff and it doesn't show up in my template. It is overlaying several identical images and you would never know that because it disappears before Firefox-Firebug can get to it. I would never have guessed that. The Inter-tubes are awfully squeaky and sometimes makes scary noises.

Google and Microsoft at Tanagra

Reference: "Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra." The title is a reference to a 'Star Trek The Next Generation' episode about a culture that communicates with metaphors ( Darmok ). I think that Microsoft has shown its very heart and intent by cooperating with the Chinese government to be the messenger of censorship for personal gain above the rights of life. On the surface you could see it as simple greed and corruption, but I think it is much deeper than that.

I see plans within plans. If you can control what a person experiences from birth you can own their existence. Recently they uncovered a man who had kidnapped a young girl and kept her in a shed for her life and had 3 children with her. I would say that human slavery in any form is the most vile of activities. I find it very odd that a president of African American ancestry could look at China and not see the horror. It is possible for a member of a race to accept the slavery of others in their race, or slavery in general.

The concept of using others as a tool, because you can, is derived from deep roots of social and biological history. The concept of "pack", fear, instinct, dominance, the bicameral mind. The marriage of the house Medici ( Microsoft ) and Ghengis Khan ( China ) is to be expected. The company and cultural philosophies are consistent. The idea is to limit knowledge to control others. It is very simple and effective. The problem is that it is genocidal for the human race. It does not mean it won't be successful at destroying all life, because the universe is not fair. It does not measure the worth of an individual before it covers them in volcanic ash.

These jackals ( Ms and C ) know each other well and they know that they should not turn their tails to the other or they will get the blade as well as anyone. A sad model of what the human race represents to the universe. At some point the human race must stop being shaped by biological evolution and drag themselves into the light of reason. Perhaps it would be better to leave for space and let the corrupted corpse of human greed writhe and come back to reclaim the garden when the maggots and worms have finished their work.

I see more, of plans within plans. I am sure there is a deeper truth here and the events on the surface show only the ripples of the creatures below. The pieces on the chess board each play their own game. Some have played for centuries. Go ask Alice Infinity, I think she knows.

Express yourself in a regular way

Google now has a code search page that uses REGEX ( explanation of regular expressions at Wikipedia ) and I have not tried it yet, but it does look like something that my meta-code generator would like to use.

Regular expressions can be used from a C library or perl, or Python, in fact I assume there are bindings for every language.

Google and Yahoo

I was looking at page source on Google and I saw this, and I thought, "How Odd!", but then I really don't know where that merger stands and I guess it doesn't make a lot of difference as Google has about 90% share anyway AFAIK.

Chrome plated 7

I have seen that Windows its making its program boot faster and operate easier. That can be done a couple ways and I guess they have chosen to reduce functionality, security, and complexity of action. I am sure that most people could give a rat about my opinion of W7, but I wonder, if I just make a machine that supports Google Chrome and no other program, wouldn't that be an easy stitch to make? It would certainly boot fast, probably a few microseconds, if I designed it. Then it would simply be an issue of showing what came across the internet. 99% of all people wouldn't even know it wasn't Windows, now that Ms has dirtied the waters with stupid forward and back design changes. Most people think I run Windows, because it has a monitor that shows dots. Most people don't care or know what they are looking at. I certainly wouldn't ask them to sort the good bits from bad on my computer, because that is my job.

IDK, what does a stand alone OS gain anybody, other than code design people, seriously? I couldn't do without Linux or debian, but most people could just as well use Google Chrome if they wanted something that did what they needed, and left the rest to those who want to deal with the complexity of technology. You could hardly lose any security changing away from W7. :)

The real reason that people accept Windows is just the advertising. If Google put a couple Billion in ads to promote a stand alone Chrome box, Microsoft would drop like a stone, or spend every last penny they had in a desperate effort to reverse the process. It probably would be a gamble for Google as Ms would literally spend every last penny they had and borrow another trillion dollars, because they know as well as I that the only reason W is accepted is because people are easily influenced. It is just the way it is. Not all people care about the technology or its use, they just want to be liked and do what others do, so they are accepted and feel loved. It just isn't what I care about. I don't base my self worth on what others think of me. It is based solely on how many HoHos I can eat at once, while drinking a Mountain Dew.

Google project available

I created a Google project and that link is to download the source. I tried my best to make this a good example, check for all errors, make it safe code, document where needed, use my best skills ( such as they are ) and keep to the subject and just include the needed methods and information with no personal info. If somebody wants to "own" and extend this, let me know. It isn't really a game, because you always win, but it does show how this type of thing is coded. The puzzle solver is a little ragged and I could have cleaned that up, but I started in one direction and ended up somewhere else. I will eventually clean it up and remove useless methods. There isn't a lot, but I am picky about the code being clean. I would like every instruction cycle to count. I include "usleep" so that it doesn't generate unnecessary entropy recreating the screen a thousand times a second. Get the code and have some fun. I laughed a lot when I added the flipping tiles and the solver, and the solution sounds. It is worth a laugh to look at and could be a good start for another game. Thanks to too many people who provide examples of open source code.

There should be ample documentation here on the blog to modify any of this code, and if it comes to that and somebody wonders what the h2l I was thinking, leave a comment and I will respond.

Usage instructions:

1: download sechs-stein.zip
2: Extract with option "Extract here"
3: open console in that directory
4: make

Eventually is will get a configure file, but until then you will need to get several dev libraries for SDL, openGL, Xwindows and what else I don't know. I have so many dev packages that I am not sure which apply, or where they are. I suppose I will do "sudo apt-cache search "X"" at some point, but I guess I am weak on the configure part of this and maybe I will learn that now. It is as good an excuse as any. Perhaps I will make a script that checks for the dev files and does an apt-get if they are missing. IDK when I will do that , but eventually if nobody takes the lead and extends this a bit or even debianizes it.

It is neat, try it. BTW it is called sechs-stein because sechs is six and there are six rows. I thought that ein-stein would be one stein and sechs stein would be six :), it has had many different names over the years and I don't know all the history, but this is the current incarnation.

I will probably do some work on this now that it is public and reflects on me. I know that it is possible to access outside of an array in one place and I just ignored that so I will fix it in version 0.1. So I have known flaws and things to be done. So I suppose I could do the whole thing and create a BUGS list, a want list, and an indicator of what bugs are fixed with the first "pre-release" version. So look there and I will update it to add configure, i18n, debian, MAC, and make it cosmetically correct and playable as a real game.

Thunderbird can help Google

It seems to me that if there were some back scatter communication between Thunderbird mail and Google, it could use the data of ((SPAM || JUNK ) && DELETED) to help them to remove spam and junk mail from the mailbox. The combination of all people would give mail origins a rank, which Google is great at implementing. I assume they do a "cache call", which is different from a "cash call", that can be selected to use cache in (n) cycles, which would determine the energy usage per element analyzed , per unit time. It is a way of controlling the heat generated by cache, which can burn a hole through the floor if you let it run wild. It is such an effective method that every CPU should have a cache area that could be used by a program to make simultaneous comparisons, hashes, unsorted lists, and many other things faster by many powers. It has to have some kind of entropy limit so that people don't do what they like to do, which is jump directly to the most powerful option and slam it. That would make so much heat that it would destroy itself if it were not temperature limited, or a better way is to have the software be aware of how many cycles they are pushing out a comparison from a large list to conserve energy. If the software is aware of the latency, it is easier to keep the user informed in a normal manner.

Any new CPU should have this in it and parallel CPUs is nice, but it is very difficult to untangle the sequence of logic trees without using a technique such as this. I don't think that multiple CPUs has a wonderful future, I would rather see much more user accessible cache.

The Google Game

I had some images of the new puzzle pieces generated with Inkscape, Blender and ImageMagick, but it seems tha I can't upload images right now so I will add them later.

I have been working on matrices, puzzles, logic, programming, elvi, wget, etc. and I realized that I could make a program that was a real world puzzle. The game is to use Google and others to move internet traffic for any number of purposes including simple boredom, vanity, advertising, fame, money and power. People take advantage of loop holes in the structure of the internet to achieve their results and it is a situation similar to the game I have been analyzing. I use my Google pages for the purpose it was intended, which is to have a kind of personal newspaper that represents my thoughts and interests. To make it clear, the game would be to identify the methods of a spammer and also identify the location and associated person. I wouldn't use the techniques to manipulate the system, merely to identify the methods at work.

So I can make a game that identifies the relationships in space, sets, time, and motive to determine a coherent puzzle solution that identifies the relationships, motives and position of the elements. The same kind of logic and methods apply to this problem and it has a larger scale, but it would seem that solving it would be much more fun than playing a game that I can automate to solve a million games a second with just a standard computer and billions of games per second with a FPGA or other gate array.

There is some Interpol, KGB, and NSA software that does something similar to this, I would guess. I doubt that it is open source though.

I remembered my Unicode from last year about this time and got a surprise about unintended consequences. I added some page CSS that formatted the text and indented paragraphs. It happened to mess with the visual accuracy of one of the elements at the link and so I fixed that, but oddly I would never have thought about how a global change would affect my blog globally. I suppose is it a limitation on my ability to imagine or consider forward consequence of any act.

Google to the second power

I do hope that Google realizes that they are in the preeminent position to Google themselves and take the best advantage of the information. I would hope they would share that result also. I was working on a method to implement i18n and this came to mind as I was going to use the elvi to get Google to do concept translation for my code. It doesn't really make much sense for i18n to consider words individually. It is concepts that translate and the words just get in the way most of the time.

It seems to me that adopting Windows in the new world of the internet is a bad bet. The primary reason is that it tries to localize and sell information as a subset of all information. i18n is a good example where computation should not be done on an OS that is isolated. It would seem that people who adopt the Windows approach are shooting themselves in the foot. What they are doing is isolating themselves from the wealth of information on the internet to use methods that are local and also subject to temporal limitations.

It is a difficult concept to relate, but if I design a system that uses proprietary methods , then I am constantly required to negotiate only with those who share that common format. It becomes an increasingly smaller circle of users over time as the concept is flawed and causes the failure of those who use that process. The additional cost, delay, confusion, and disruption burdens the companies to the point that they become less competitive. On an even playing field they must eventually lose to their competition. In the US they have shifted the playing field to support Microsoft and thus they are profitable. The cost of that method comes from everybody and has a negative impact on the country and will eventually take the country to a position that is not competitive. If Intel were proactive they would cut the puppet string to Microsoft and save themselves from being dragged down by the oppressive weight of a failed computational concept. What would Microsoft do if Intel undercut them and went directly to the sellers with open source support? It would allow them and AMD to take more profit for innovation. I don't think that Microsoft has a play that would work in that scenario. Windows is a failed concept, but people have a tendency to drag silly things on long after they have lost their utility.

Schizophrenic Relativity

This is the point I am hoping to merge the idea of locality and non-locality in a consistent framework that resolves some of the topological confusion in the higher dimensions.

The reason for the name of the post is that when I look at an equation represented as the projection of space on an axis, I am seeing the symbolic mathematical system look at the projection of the n-dimensional reality of the materials involved.

There is no reason that a person that has a curiosity about the universe should not find everything they need , somewhere on the web.

If there is an EPR ( Einstein Podolsky Rosen ) bridge, I suspect I may find it here. I doubt it is there, however many things that I have considered impossible have become real and though anecdotal evidence is hardly a good rule it does confirm that I am not always right in my projections of what might be possible. It is always fun to try, anyway.

As complex and difficult as some of the symbols of math and logic can be, it actually suffers from too much overlap in symbols. The context switch from different sciences can be almost a schizophrenic adventure itself. In this case the symbols like partial differential operators mixed with differentials can be as much of a challenge as the science itself. In this case I might suspect that ^ was shorthand for the xor operator at first glance. Obviously they do not program in C or they would have chosen some other symbol. I don't think that using α β and γ instead of a b c adds anything more than making it look more foreign. I have written single line shell scripts that are more complex than the functional interrelationships themselves. If you have done openGL, the name set and the relationship to concepts can be daunting. Well at least they don't do the equations in 'comic sans serif'.

I had a really strange thought as I pondered the concept and realized there is one way that an object could go through a black hole if the structure is as is described. I have my doubts about the specifics of the mechanics of a black hole and its relationship to time and dimension, but that means that I (as well) don't know for sure either.

ADDED: Well, there I go again, I thought of an experiment to do ( if only I had a black hole to play with ) then I realized that if the experiment worked, that the signs of the effect would show up around black holes. Now if only there were some data on black holes that I could look through to check that, oh yeah, its on the web. I have to be comfortable with the math before I analyze the data, but is an intriguing idea that seems to be at least plausible.

ADDED MORE: It appears that there is a relationship that implies that time travel is possible, however the process would never be like the popularized idea of time which means that paradox ensues or that something can derive from nothing. The conservation of energy, momentum, matter, and thus, all consequence are conserved. It does allow for some very unusual conditions that allow things that would seem to be paradoxical, but would not be. If I had a method to travel all over the universe and collect technology from millions of advanced cultures and returned here, I would not need to have a sequence of development or precursor, only that a precursor does exist at some point in space.

The solution to some problems arise by assuming a solution and then working backward. This is not paradoxical and the way I derived GCF in a program is an example of this, as is the derivation of f'(ax)Δx with some methods.

Some of what I achieve is singularity like in that I use the external electronic structure of the world as an extension of my mind. I cannot look through 100 trillion web pages and find something I need, but I can leverage the internet to do that. Between the elvi and my programming methods, I can make an effective filter that solves for a need or piece that extends my solutions. WolframAlpha is, in a way, an attempt to implement this as an object that is easy to use. It is presently limited to mathematic concepts, however they all end in the same place as Δx goes to to zero.

The interaction of all the information available as filtered by reasonable AI becomes something that cannot exist by itself. If the information and method to access that is removed, then I am damaged. In the same way, if I did not provide answers to others, they also would be limited.

There comes a point where people cannot even function without their Google eyes.

P2P Google

It seems that an open source network of P2P machines could do just as well as Google in indexing and ordering search data. The structure as a whole is that I can point at a location on the Internet and send something there, or get something there just like memory. In addition the nodes of memory in that structure are all computational. Many sorts act in a parallel fashion and the algorithms can be selected to be used in this way.

In this way the Internet indexes itself, if it has a way to store and retrieve.

I will make a simple case of this. If a series of machines are connected in a circle that is partitioned in the letters a-z and the address of a, b, c,...z nodes are stored in a known location. I am a site called 'a', I look up the index and find the node a, and then I send it across the circle to that node. Alternately if all participate, the data is ordered by the circular connections and their sub connections. I really only need to know the index point and I can search anything I want.

Since each element is able to find its place in the list, there is no computation center at all. If I keep a list of blogs I read, then I am in a way doing the same thing. You might think that it would be abused, and most certainly it would, as is Google. I can do evil things to Google and they can respond, however the net result is the same whether there is A or B, people will be what they are and some are malicious and some are not. The predominant mode seems to be toward rationality and cooperation.

The result of this is that I can find anything on the Internet in log2 time and this means that even 2333 ( a googol 10100) takes 333 steps to find exactly what you need out of 10100 things and I am guessing that would usually cover about anything that is, was, and will be for some time to come.

In a way, Wikipedia and others are already doing this, but they have not agreed on a method to establish the hierarchy of search and it really only requires a decision to do so and all the power and revenue of an international search system will be owned by those who participate.

There is no question that I can establish a linked list or tree or a dozen associative methods across the Internet. A linked list is just the address of the next element and is pointed to by the previous element. How much CPU time would it consume for me to allocate one variable on my machine as the 'next' IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx; the answer is 4 bytes per machine. The trees and indexes could be arranged to solve equations and some presently intractable problems .

Wikipedia is building an indexed structure to knowledge, which is commendable and in its completion, it may become the new place to search for information, instead of the randomness of unstructured search, which yields many more non-informational things than informational at times. The editors at Wikipedia are doing a great service to humanity and humanity could do a great service for itself, if it simply agreed to become self indexed.

The result of all this is that advertisers who pay to represent their context can place that information where it will be useful and not waste their time trying to screw with every single sole ( pun coming ) to sell shoes. The degree of indexing and specificity could be hundreds of times more effective by marking the data by specific qualities, like new old, cheap, expensive, high quality, quick delivery, slow and it would not be possible for the person selling something to manipulate the truth if they had no way to control a composite framework. In order to do that, they would have to class themselves as internet criminals or defacers.

Instant zero energy Google

I have been studying all the types of sorts and heaps and trees and such. I had my own algorithm that I used for log2, and better, searches/sorts that incorporated characters, words, and finally concepts. The reason for this was label table sorting inside the program when it is self assembling. The purpose is so that it can write new code and extend its own capabilities.

The unusual thing is that at some point it resolves as a single static entity.

A comparable situation is a pruned tic-tac-toe decision tree. Because it has no gain or loss and the result is therefore indifferent, the decisions are meaningless, unless you choose to fail.

Because it has rotational symmetry, there are really only three types of moves( center, corner, edge ). In the case of Google, it appears that if the data set is large enough it is possible to combine an array in a convoluted structure that is static and statically addressable and thus solved. It seems there is enough memory space on the internet to perform an in place sort through the IPs. What this does is create a matrix of virtual understanding in the same way that a dictionary spell checker can see if a word is a member of the set of valid words, or even a member of the set of commonly misspelled words.

In my program, a dictionary search for a word is average T of about 6 to 12 memory accesses and if they are cached it is quite fast and consistent. CAM will achieve the same result about 5 times faster ( ballistic parallel ) , but requires vast amounts of energy. It is possible to have static CAM which operates in one cycle and consumes less power than O(1) , Big O of 1 or independent of the data set.

I know that context checkers are now possible and they can function in the same way. The point I am trying to make is that many people will make the same tic-tac-toe moves throughout their lives ( discovery ) and that this sequence can be established in a static tree that is 0-energy CAM search-able. It seems unreasonable that each successive generation should repeat the mistakes of the last and the steps of personal discovery, when the steps are not optional in some cases.

It is not just an idle thought, as the very same thing is taking place in a volume the size of a basketball to produce this result. Unless you say that the computation of solutions in the neural array incorporates some mechanism that does not exist in the physical universe, it demonstrates that it is possible and simulation is inevitable.

If you look at a butterfly and say, "How does it fly?", could you not just as well say, "How does a creature think?" and how can this be modeled and duplicated. A mind is trained by its input and molded by its experience and this is a costly and time consuming process.

I think that this Internet-Google-Golem already exists and it is simply waiting for somebody to put the right words on a slip of parchment and place it in the command line of a search. I am not sure exactly how this would be done, but I do see that, at least in theory, it is possible.

That strange noise I hear on the intertubes, may be golem stretching.

While writing this, an article arrived in my news feed that asked the question "Could the net become self-aware?" and I would respond, "Is it already self-aware and just waiting for somebody to notice the elephant in the room?".

If the Aliens have eaten me this post will arrive

One new feature ( of Google blogger ) is to set the time a post will appear on Google blogs and I see Slashdot is not a real word in spell check but Google is *chuckle* I am going to set the post time of this as 5/5/2008 12:50 Pm just to see how it works. Might be an interesting way to exist in the future, in some odd way. Yes I think I will make some of these posts that are in fact my future existence should something happen and I cannot post , like if an alien eats me. Apparently it is off by 1 hr so I must figure out why that is. So obviously the aliens ate me and yet here I am. Can't explain how that happened. I guess I am GMT -6 not -7.
