Returning to the world of silly bits and vampire bytes

Now I have finished the math and physics and chemistry and electronics. It has been a long process and I have made a complete tour of the sciences and filled in a lot of blanks. I find that the sciences are poorly structured for a polymath and the amount of symbol / nomenclature overload between sciences is confusing. Use of multiple symbols for the same concept in separate fields, multiple acceptable representations, stylized usage, ..... It is about as organized as the English language. Context problems abound. Perhaps it has something to do with the amorphous processing of the human mind, which is well suited for observing and operating in chaos, as it is perhaps just a model of chaos in the miniature.

Today I am challenged to make sense of ASP in the context of web pages. I am attempting to be effective with CPAN also. The prerequisites that I have managed now is XML, XUL, HTML, XHTML, XLS, SSH, nfs, GET, PUT, SMTP,ATM, BusyBox, MAKE, CSS, Javascript (ECMA), java, DOM, Apache, SQL, PHP, Perl, C, C++, Object oriented programming, lisp, REGEX, shell, POSIX, assembly, git, and on and on. Some days I wonder if there is going to be a point where I can just deal with the changes to the standards and not have to investigate a new technology every day.

I am using my own Apache server to test the PHP, Perl, CGI, SQL, Javascript, java, XUL, AJAX, CSS, and security.I assume I will eventually set up a server that I can connect directly to the net without restriction and establish a domain name and address. The use of DSL and other gateways seems to be a dominated strategy, to use a phrase from YALE economic game theory.

I am also seeing how far I can go with the incorporation of useful features in the blog, without running afoul of Google content restrictions.

I tested Google Chrome yesterday and got the source for Firefox and looked through the code. It is not a simple program and the structure will take some time to be familiar. I am able to get and parse web pages with C as well as PHP , but the integration is where utility is gained. I am not so sure that there needs to be 10 different browsers. Nobody really makes any money on the appliance and I would think that Google should embrace Firefox and support it as well as Chrome and MS should just give it up with that Piece of Crap IE. I have looked at it too and they have really screwed people with that. They are not a market leader there and economic theory suggests that they are pushing IE, even though it is an expensive dominated strategy just to interfere with the business of others. MS has got to realize at some point that they are not going to be able to operate as a monopoly anymore and they should scale back to specialized software or just dump the OS business and use the cash to diversify into new technologies.

I am using an include CSS at the moment and it may take several iterations to get this to look or function properly in that mode.

The HR element is simply included as an immediate indicator of how the CSS is applied to each element and page, so I don't have to pop up firebug to know which script is active or dominant. This is a p2 style element and I can specify any tag name with CSS. This is rather funny as this shows up different in every single browser I used. Chrome does something really odd, Konqueror acts odd, Kontact is different still, Firefox is confused, Galeon is similar to Firefox, but has different HR attributes, SeaMonkey is about like Galeon

Firefox seems to be the best implementation, and I am not going to stoop to trying out IE as it would require running Windows and I don't have the time to throw away.

On a separate note, the Chrome browser seems to have a few glitches in Linux with the crossover Wine implementation and I am not surprised, as I have been in the Wine code and it is very difficult to make an ordered application that is safe and solid on top of the Windows framework.

What is the vector of perception

It is my opinion that the concept of coordinate relations stem from how we perceive the universe and this stems from the nature of the universe itself and how it is perceived or measured. A perception is a measure of things. To make sense of what we perceive and how that relates to what is actually taking place, we must transform coordinate systems.

One of the first things that any creature must do is translate the fact that objects are smaller by 1/x and 1/y at a distance z, and that rotation about an axis leads to a perception of the length that is a transform based upon its rotation with respect to the observer. A baby must make this transform in their mind before they can deal with space. By the time we learn math we have completely forgotten this transform and cannot recall it.

Strangely I can actually recall that transform mentally and apply it or not depending on my mood or whim. It is not difficult for me to look at a room and say that the wall across from me is smaller than the one closer. Mentally, I can cancel that transform and reapply it. I rarely do that as it makes it difficult to do many common tasks and is very much like when I was 14 and I grew nearly a foot in height in one summer. I had to recalculate all of the world coordinates to my enlarged dimensions.

The point of this is that energy travels along straight lines in all directions and we live in a universe with many straight lines. The relationship of the perception of the length and width of an object at a distance in rotation is determined by the lines that intersect with our space. The positional rotational transform is one of the most important mental transforms and also the most important mathematically to devise rules to apply to systems of measure to deduce the real structure relationship of its parts.

This then allows us to apply very simple transforms to the state and then convert it back to the relative perception ( or measure ).

The concept of the triangular relationships is key to that conversion and is probably the only system of measure to which I would attach a great significance. Much like the identity (A=A), it describes the identity of relationships in space. By further decomposing its nature to the physicality of the 'material' that forms the universe it is easier for me to follow the progress of relationships which form as a consequence.

I was doing some puzzles earlier and there is a topology problem about how to connect gas, electric, and water to three houses in 2D space without crossing. Most people know this riddle and some know the topological foundations, however I am always looking for a way to trick the universe into doing something which others think is impossible. I have not found a solution that would solve that riddle in the context it is presented, however it did make me think of something very odd in the genotype to phenotype development of complex organisms. They must get gas and electricity and water too and there is an interesting topological trick that nature has devised.

I can't go into detail of every thing I discover and document it twice. I spend a great deal of time documenting the code for 'antfarmgl' and it serves as a reference, a proof, and a way to observe the algorithms with the explanations so that they can be understood. When the source is integrated enough that I am able to release it as something that needs polish, but has no inherent flaws that would require a complete rewrite, then it should be obvious to anybody who can do a "svn co" of the source. It has Doxygen so it is just following the HTML to see the graphic relationships and dependencies. It also does its own self documentation and graphic demonstration as the videos show.

I added Doxygen to my Linux kernel source and that took a long time to get done and created a 1.5 Gigabyte data base of the inter-relationships. Strangely as it progressed I saw all the things that I know must happen. Some things are not a symbolic match and cannot be coordinated with some tools. The relationship of SMM, Virtual 8086, PM, and Paged virtual memory and cache is a topological nightmare and is clear in my mind, however I would rather not think about a Doxygen that could unscramble those relationships, as it might just tell me 42.

Xulrunner, the coyote is after you. Xulrunner, if it catches you, you're through!

Xulrunner invoking Xul

As part of understanding Miro, I have a chance to build upon my understanding of XUL. I see that it is a shared library of functions that are used to make applications. Another type of script. I have made a minimal XUL application. This is one step in understanding the overall structure of Miro. I have also studied the history and culture surrounding ".torrent". It does surprise me that the code for Miro has so many different sections and I probably will create a "C" language test package to simulate the entire application. It seems that managing lists, configuration, layouts, key and mouse handling, graphics, and even video play could just as easily be incorporated with standard "C" libraries. The unique thing about this is the fact that it uses torrent and I am not sure that this is even necessary to the overall utility.

ADDED: Now I went on from XUL ( subset of XML ) to RDF and XBL. I have a new appreciation of all the inter-related specifications and their use and implementation. I am not sure that many people actually understand all of this. URLs, XML, CSS, HTML, XBL, RDF, XHTML, chrome, java, javascript, XPI, VRML, SVG, XUL, DOM, ..... I have a much better grasp and perhaps in a few months it will be coherent. At the moment it is understood in its context, but I cannot reason with it. It will be some time before it resolves to a coherent model that I can "see" the changes as they happen in my mind. It does seem to be a big advantage for creating applications and there are definite issues of trust involved when most people use technology. This is the biggest advantage of open source is that I can trust and verify.

The spooky night of Device Drivers

I bought a book that looked like this with a horse on the cover and I designed a new cover for me with GIMP, mainly because I am insane and also because I wanted to modify it further and use it as the desktop icon to the Device Driver Dev I am doing.

I will probably create a section in my own reference book catalogs and work through an entire device driver tonight to install it and control it. I have a NanoScope I Scanning Tunneling Microscope that I have modified and that will be the end interface point through an 82f51/8048 type flash microcontroller and another laptop that will be the intermediate device.

I also have a full tube of 1M flash bios chips that I use through a parallel interface that I designed to be similar to a nearCAM ( Content Addressable Memory ). I read the book when I first got it to get the general idea of device drivers and I have let it sink in a bit in context of Kernel hacking. I have made my own kernel several times and I think I have a fairly good general knowledge of all the tools ( GDB, emacs, vi, shell, built-ins, libraries, PERL, Python, 'c', gcc, make, cMake, jam, svn, SSH, TCP/IP, USB, ATT/Intel x86_64 assembly language, DDD, debian packaging, wiki, PHP, Apache, lisp, ada, config, ifup/down, serial RS232, CSMA, and bongo bingo (that is a ringer to see if you are paying attention ).

If you want to use the book on line here is the current link. I paid 39.95 +tax for the book and I think it is free to read on line, but I am not sure. Perhaps not, I think I got the free 45 day online with the book and signed up, then forgot when I started working on something else. So it is probably not free. It is a good book and seems to be well structured. I bet they know Zool.

XUL (ausgesprochen "suul", reimt sich auf "cool")

XUL analysis Thus XUL (発音は zool:ズール で、リズムは cool:クール) It seems a very silly to have a phoneme similarity translated since the concept of 'sounds like' is completely lost with a new phoneme set.

I have continued with XPI and XUL. That is very interesting. There is a reason they call them CSS 'cascading style' sheets. There are so many interesting open source projects and I keep finding new ones all the time.
