This is an example of the engine and it is open source. While looking around at what has been done in the way of modeling I found this program and it seems to be a well developed product. It isn't quite at the level of blender, but it has some nice interfaces and the documentation is well developed and the site is laid out well. I think this is a good example of open source projects that are up and coming.
