Formatting standards and CSS

This does not seem to work on the blog and that will be a lesson in CSS that I will learn today. A simple paragraph. Which flows on and on , but should indent only on the first line, but what do I know about how the browser interprets the tags, css, xml and then determines how it will be displayed? In this case it is justified and that is nice. In this case I have set the line spacing also and this does seem to help with readability, somewhat. It would be interesting to know what methods, fonts, colors, and style is the best. It is likely to be a mess as it would vary with the machine type, available fonts, language used, browser implementation, and just user preference. It would be interesting to have a CSS that was customized for a specific person or group that allowed them to view the pages with a specific CSS format and I believe I could implement that with Javascript and PHP and XHTML and XSL fairly easily and consistently. I am reasonably sure that I am not the first person to think of this and I will do some research to see if there is already a generalized script that allows a specific user or groups of users to select and keep their preferences based on a browser cookie.
The css code is as follows:

<style type="text/css">
p:first-letter {color:#001144;font-size:large}
//Or maybe this :)
p:first-letter {color:#001144;font-size:xx-large;font-family:"Blackadder ITC","Tiranti Solid LET","French Script MT", Gothic,"Franklin Gothic"}
p {text-align:justify;color:#000000}
p {font-family: Arial,Times,Courier,Helvetica, "Times New Roman","Courier New",sans-serif; }
p {text-indent:50px}
p {margin-left:20px;margin-right:20px}
p.bunched {line-height: 90%}
p.spaced {line-height: 150%}
pre {background: #dddddd}
specialword {color:#440044}
body {background: #fefffe}
hr {color:blue}
</style>

Clearly it does now either indent or not with only the first line and is spaced at the ends to keep the text from running into other things on the page, if they are unruly. This varies and the preview function may not give a real WYSIWYG interpretation of the result and so I must publish this and see if the final format is to my liking.
