Back scatter from creation

I wonder sometimes if I am speculating or spectator to the natural process of existence. If the universe came into existence 12 billion years ago and life first formed at the edge of the explosion, and developed FAL ( fast as light ) travel and started this way to conquer or destroy all in their path, ..... would you see the ship that kills you? Furthermore, would you ever get advanced warning of advanced culture? Why look for ET? If we don't learn how to jump, we will be road kill.
