Serial killer needs your help

This article at Wired is so weird to me. So what they are saying is that their intent is to kill the enemy and they want find ways for the enemy to love them as they kill them. This seems to be classical serial killer mentality. Why do they oppose us when all we want to do is kill them? If the enemy can be made stupider, we could be smart. Wow, that sounds like a Saturday Night Live skit where grog kills the smart caveman and thus becomes the smartest person. It makes perfect sense from the military perspective. We are stupid, and the only way to win is to make everybody else more stupid.
