A toolkit for all seasons

I am investigating this (swtoolkit) open source cross platform software assembly method. Also I will be looking at Scon to see what the overall process involves. They seem to have hit all the hot buttons in their description which implies they have the experience to approach the problem. Things like dependencies, scripts, library locations, and instruction sets.

I will take a tour and try out the methods and maybe it is a better way than I currently use. I like gcc, make, shell script, automake, autoconf, and such, but it can't hurt to put just one more idea in my head, if it explodes, then I know for sure, that is one too many.
