Drug company stole my source code

I do wonder how it is that a drug company can look into the genetics of an individual that has a higher resistance to disease or cancer, then identify the gene and sell as their property? It would seem that it was public domain, unless my mother patented me without my knowledge. I suppose it is fair to get their genes and use them to create -real- lab rats that solve problems for my AI. Seems fair. So by stealing things from people's DNA at random and harvesting it for profit, ... IDK there has to be something wrong with that.
